
Sydney Scales Earns IWLCA Defender of the Year Award

CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. - Senior Boston College lacrosse defender Sydney Scales added to her impressive resume after being named the IWLCA Defender of the Year on Wednesday.
The senior was a consensus first-team All-American after anchoring the nation's fourth-lowest scoring defense, allowing just 8.47 goals per game. She finished her season with a career and team-high 39 caused turnovers with 39 ground balls.
The Walpole, Mass. native played a pivotal role in BC capturing a second national title since 2021, coming back from a 6-0 deficit to upend Northwestern, 14-13. BC finished with a 20-3 mark and won its final eight games of the season.Â
Scales was named ACC Defender of the Year for the second straight season, becoming the first defender since 2015-16 to win the award back-to-back seasons. She led BC to a second straight ACC title after the defense allowed just 20 goals in the three wins. She was named the ACC Tournament's Most Outstanding Player after her performance.
Scales was named Eagle of the Year and was a top-25 Tewaaraton Finalist, and she  was the first defender selected and the fourth overall pick in the AU Pro Lacrosse College Draft.Â
