Fast Start for Lacrosse Leads to Senior Day Win

CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. - The fourth-ranked Boston College lacrosse team dominated Clemson in a 16-4 win on Senior Day inside Alumni Stadium on Sunday afternoon.
The Eagles win their fourth straight to move to 12-2 and 6-1 in the ACC, while Clemson falls to 9-5 and 2-5 in the league.
Rachel Clark was one of three Eagles with a hat trick, scoring a game-high five goals with one assist for six points. Kayla Martello tied a season high with five points thanks to three goals and two helpers.
Belle Smith registered three goals, one assist, four points, and four draw controls. Emma LoPinto scored twice to round out the leaders in goals. Seven different Eagles tallied a goal.
Cassidy Weeks led the team with six DCs, while Ryan Smith added three draw controls with a score.
The defense was just as impressive with eight caused turnovers and limiting Clemson to a season low in goals. Sydney Scales tied a season best with four caused turnovers and three ground balls. Shea Dolce made eight saves in 46 minutes of action and a .727 save percentage. Maddy Manahan made one stop and one ground ball in 14 minutes of play.
Boston College wasted no time in getting off to a fast start, as B. Smith struck first to give BC a 1-0 lead in the first 2:38 of the game. The goal started a stretch of seven straight to give the hosts a 7-0 lead that went into the second period. Clark had a hand in four of the goals with three goals and an assist.
BC went into the second with a 6-0 advantage, while Clark capped off the run with a goal to start the second. Clemson scored two straight to cut the deficit to five, but the Eagles went on a 3-0 spurt over the final 8:33 to give BC a 10-2 lead going into the break.
Martello started the third with a score that pushed the lead to nine. BC stretched the cushion to as much as 12 early in the fourth off a Weeks goal, and the Eagles led by more than 10 the rest of the way.
BC honored its 13 seniors after the game for their dedication and commitment to the program.
The Eagles return to next Saturday against UVA on ACC Network at 4 p.m. in Charlottesville, Va.
