Boston College falls to Virginia Tech 6-1 on Friday afternoon in Blacksburg.
BLACKSBURG, Va. – The Eagles (5-12, 0-9 ACC) fall 6-1 to No. 58 Virginia Tech (10-8, 3-7 ACC) on Friday afternoon in Blacksburg, Va.
The Eagles would drop the first doubles match 6-0 to the Hokies. Boston College would bounce back with the doubles squad of #20 Juan Jose Bianchi and Jake Vassel defeating #76 Ryan Fishback and Maxime St. Hilaire of Virginia Tech 6-3. The Hokies would win the next doubles match 6-4 to earn the doubles point.
Boston College took the first match of singles with Jake Vassel defeating Shepheard of Virginia Tech in straight sets 6-0, 6-4. Caleb Saltz would hang closely with No. 89 Fishback of Virginia Tech in set one, but ultimately fell in straight sets 6-4, 6-1. The Hokies would go on to win two straight matches in straight sets, making the match score 4-1 Virginia Tech. Matt Campbell took Ix of Virginia Tech to a tiebreaker set in set one of their match, but Campbell was unable to defeat Ix and would ultimately fall in straight sets 7-6 (11-9), 6-4. Juan Jose Bianchi stood strong to wrap up the singles matches for the Eagles, taking set one against St. Hilaire of Virginia Tech 6-4. Bianchi and St. Hilaire would go into a tiebreaker in the next two sets with St. Hilaire winning both to defeat Bianchi 4-6, 7-6 (7-4), 1-0 (10-5).
