Eagles Split the Day Against Notre Dame

Boston College looks towards a rubber match tomorrow
SOUTH BEND, Ind.-- The Boston College Softball program split the day against Notre Dame, at the Melissa Cook Softball Stadium.
Game 1
BC fell to Notre Dame, 4-3 in the first meeting of the teams in a three game series.Â
Game one began Friday afternoon, however play was postponed in the bottom of the fifth due to weather. Game one resumed Saturday afternoon.Â
The Eagles kicked off play scoring one run in the second, and added another in the fourth to take a 2-0 lead. Boston College manufactured runs off of a Maycee Hilt RBIÂ and a Zoe Hines RBI sacrifice fly.
Notre Dame responded in the bottom of the fourth adding one to the board, the Irish then added another in the fifth evening the score.Â
BC left two runners on base going into the bottom of the sixth. The Fighting Irish added one run, the Eagles were unable to respond.Â
Game 2
The Eagles took game two, 10-9, in the second match-up of the day against Notre Dame.Â
The Irish struck first in the bottom of the first, going up 2-0. The Eagles responded in the third, taking a 3-2 lead on a bases-loaded two-RBI single from Jordan Stephens followed by a RBI single from Jules Shields.Â
Notre Dame countered and rallied four runs in the bottom of the third to regain the lead 6-3.Â
The sides traded runs in the fourth, with Boston College adding one to the board on a solo home run from Makenna Segal, her third of the season.
The Eagles rallied in the sixth, scoring five runs to take a 9-7 lead. A RBI double from Segal started the action, followed by a Kali Case RBI bunt, and back-to-back home runs by Hannah Slike and Nicole Giery. The Fighting Irish left the bottom of the frame open, moving into the seventh inning.
With two outs in the top of the seventh, Segal added another with a home run to left field, leaving the frame with a three run advantage.Â
Notre Dame rallied too late in the bottom of the seventh inning, adding two runs, leaving the score 10-9.Â
The Eagles return to action tomorrow at 2:00 p.m. at the Melissa Cook Softball Stadium for the final game of the series.Â
