
Back in the 'SHIP: Stingy Defense Leads Lacrosse to 9-7 Win Over Irish

CHARLOTTE, N.C. - A sensational defensive effort and timely goals led Boston College lacrosse to a 9-7 win over No. 2 Notre Dame in the ACC semifinals on Friday evening in Charlotte at American Legion Memorial Stadium.Â
The Eagles advance to a third straight ACC title and seek a second straight championship against Syracuse on Sunday at 12 p.m. on ACC Network.Â
BC's defense stymied the top scoring team in the ACC, limiting the Fighting Irish to a season low in goals. The Eagles totaled 12 caused turnovers with 17 ground balls and won the draw, 10-8.Â
Sydney Scales dominated with a season-high five caused turnovers and five ground balls, while Belle Smith registered three caused turnovers, two goals and an assist. Cassidy Weeks led the way with seven draw controls.
Shea Dolce made multiple clutch saves, while she ended with eight stops and a .533 save percentage.Â
The Fighting Irish climbed back from a 4-2 deficit to tie up the contest with a pair of goals late in the second and into the third period.. Andrea Reynolds and Emma LoPinto scored back-to-back goals to give BC a commanding lead 6-4.Â
ND got to within one with 1:55 left before LoPinto scored with eight seconds left to send BC to a 7-5 lead.Â
A pair of BC goals by B. Smith and LoPinto early in the fourth quarter highlighted the 3-0 run as it extended the lead to four, 9-5. ND sliced the gap in half, but BC held the Fighting Irish scoreless over the final 5:19 of the contest.Â
LoPinto led BC's offense with all three of her goals coming in the second half. Kayla Martello scored twice and Rachel Clark tallied a goal.Â
