April 23, 2024 | Lacrosse
CHARLOTTE, N.C. -Â Boston College lacrosse senior defender Sydney Scales was named the ACC Defensive Player of the Week on Tuesday, as the conference announced weekly awards.Â
It's the first weekly award for Scales this season and the fifth of the season for BC.Â
Scales anchored the BC defense to an 11-10 triumph in overtime over then-No. 2 Syracuse last week. The Walpole, Mass. native recorded a season-high five ground balls and four caused turnovers in the victory.Â
She helped BC hold Syracuse to its lowest goal total in ACC play and the second-fewest goals in a game this season. The Eagles handed the Orange their first league setback and snapped their nine-game win streak.Â
Scales is third in the ACC in caused turnovers per game (1.92) while her 25 caused turnovers are sixth in the league. She's three CTs away from 100 for her career and her 126 ground balls are tied for ninth in school history.Â
Recently, she was named a Top 25 Tewaaraton finalist. She and the Eagles begin the ACC Championship on Wednesday against No. 6 seed Duke at 8 p.m. in the quarterfinal round in Charlotte, N.C. on ACC Network.Â
