Eagles Fall 79-70 at UNLV in NIT Second Round Play

Quinten Post leads all scorers with 22 as BC finishes 2023-24 with a 20-16 mark
LAS VEGAS — Boston College fell, 79-70, to UNLV in the second round of the 2024 National Invitation Tournament, held on Sunday night. With the loss, the Eagles end their season at 20-16 overall.
Quinten Post capped his outstanding Boston College career with a game-high 22 points. The 7-footer was 10-for-18 from the floor, making 2-of-6 from the perimeter. He added nine rebounds, three assists, and three blocked shots.
Two others tallied double-digits in the scoring column. Devin McGlockton had 11 points on 4-of-5 shooting - including 3-of-4 from beyond the arc. He added five boards and a career-best five assists.
Jaeden Zackery registered 10 points, six boards, and three assists. He made 4-of-6 shots from the field. Claudell Harris Jr. and Mason Madsen added nine points apiece, while Elijah Strong chipped in with seven points off the bench.
The Eagles connected on 43.5% (27-62) from the floor, but made 11-of-29 shots from the perimeter. BC had 16 assists on 27 made field goals and committed eight turnovers

FIRST HALF:
- After a Mason Madsen 3-pointer to start the game, UNLV went on a 14-4 run over the next four minutes.Â
- The Rebels extended their lead to as many as eight - 19-11 - with just under 13 minutes to play in the half.
- BC would respond with seven straight, capped by an Elijah Strong layup -Â to get within one (19-18) at the midway point of the half
- The Rebels rattled off six unanswered before back-to-back 3-pointers from Post and McGlockton kick started an 8-0 push, giving BC a 26-25 lead with 5:52 left
- The scoring push extended to 17-6 as BC connected on five 3-pointers, giving the Eagles their largest advantage of the night - 35-31 - with 3:35 to go
- BC made 6-of-7 shots during that stretch, including 3-of-4 from 3-point land
- The Rebels managed to tie it up at 37-37 with 1:17 left.  Â
- Prince Aligbe's putback off the offensive glass, which would have given BC a 39-37 lead at the break, was waved off after referee Ryan Hogan blew his whistle inadvertently.Â
- The ruling was no basket and BC received the ball on the alternate possession arrow
- Zackery got a good look at the basket through a ton of contact and the game remained tied at the break
- BC made 7-of-16 from beyond the arc through the first 20 minutes of play
SECOND HALF:
- BC got off to a hot start, knocking down 4-of-6 from the floor. UNLV was solid as well, making 3-of-6.
- There were two ties and three lead changes through the first five minutes of the second half
- A steal and fast break layup from Strong put the Eagles ahead, 49-46, with 15:12 left
- After another tie and two more lead changes,, Zackery's traditional three-point play made it 54-52 with 11 and a half to play.
- An 11-0 UNLV run put the game out of reach, extending its lead to 63-54 with 7:51 left
- After the Rebels led 70-60 with 5:13 left, Quinten Post scored five of the next six straight points, cutting it to 70-66. But that was as close as BC would get.
NOTES:Â
- Quinten Post became the third player in the past 27 years - and the only 7-footer - to tally 50 3-pointers, 100 assists, 50 blocks, and 30 steals in a season.
- BC reached the 20-win mark, including its first win in the postseason, for the first time since the 2010-11 seasonÂ
- UNLV held a 17-7 advantage in free throw attempts on the night
- UNLV's 79 points marked the first time in the previous seven games than an opponent scored more than 66 points
