Vince Cimini Lifts Eagles Offense to Series Win at Pitt

Eagles plate 23 runs over final two games to secure their first conference series
PITTSBURGH, Pa. — Boston College Baseball (11-7, 2-4) earned their first ACC series win of the year with a 7-3 win over Pittsburgh (10-7, 1-5), taking the rubber match on Sunday afternoon.
The Eagles scored in all but two innings in Saturday's series equalizer, and the offense carried over to Sunday with two in the opening frame. After Kyle Wolff (Andover, Mass.) opened the scoring on an RBI fielder's choice with the bases loaded, Vince Cimini (Scranton, Pa.), who went 4-for-5 yesterday, picked up his first of three run-scoring hits on the afternoon to open up a 2-0 lead after one.
Cimini doubled the lead in the third inning with a two-run home run, his fourth of the season and second in as many days. One at-bat later, and the senior second-baseman improved to 3-for-3 on the day with another RBI single. Across Boston College's first two ACC wins of 2024, Vince Cimini went 8-for-9 at the plate, with two home runs, a double, eight runs-batted-in, and six runs scored. Â
Leading 5-3 in the 7th, Cameron Leary (Bethpage, N.Y.) added insurance, lining a no-doubt solo home run to right field, his sixth of the season. Adam Magpoc (Torrance, Ca.), who went 2-for-3 with a home run on Saturday, took advantage of his only at-bat on Sunday, hustling out an RBI double to right field in the eighth inning.
Sean Hard (Mahwah, N.J.) got the Sunday start and turned in his best outing of the season, going three shutout innings with five strikeouts, three walks, and just one hit allowed. Eric Schroeder (Ridgewood, N.J.) threw the next 4.1 innings for the Eagles, striking out one and allowing just two earned runs, earning the win (1-0). Michael Farinelli (New York, N.Y.) closed the game with 1.2 innings of scoreless relief.
Boston College takes their first ACC series of the season and returns home for a mid-week contest on Tuesday, hosting Northeastern at 3:00 p.m.
