Cam Caraher and Sam McNulty combine for five RBIs in Friday win
RICHMOND, Va. — Boston College Baseball (5-2, 0-0) took game one of the weekend with a 7-2 win over Richmond (3-6, 0-0) on Friday afternoon.
John West (Shrewsbury, Mass.) started on the bump for the Eagles and earned his first win of the season (1-1), tossing six scoreless innings with six strikeouts, five hits, and just two walks.
The offense opened up in the second inning, with Sam McNulty (Cambridge, Mass.) putting the Eagles up 2-0 on a two-RBI single through the left infield. McNulty showed out on both sides on Friday, first laying out for a diving stop in the middle infield to get the lead runner at second base in the first inning. After dominating the ground, he dominated the air with a leaping catch on a line drive in the eighth inning.
The Eagles rallied for three more in the sixth inning, paced by a leadoff double by Nick Wang (Newton, Mass.) Two batters later, and the Eagles loaded the bases on a masterpiece of a bunt by Cameron Leary (Bethpage, N.Y.), which opened the door for an HBP-RBI from Vince Cimini (Scranton, Pa.), an RBI from Parker Landwehr (Baltimore, Md.), and an RBI single from Cam Caraher (Plymouth, Mass.).
Two more runs crossed for Boston College in the eighth inning after Caraher torched a ball to right field, and a fielding error allowed Cimini and Leary to cross.
Freshman Kyle Kipp (Stamford, Conn.) pitched the seventh for BC, striking out two of the six batters he faced, surrendering two hits. Eric Schroeder (Ridgewood, N.J.) finished the final two frames for the Eagles, striking out four with just one hit and one walk allowed.
Boston College will turn to a Saturday matchup at William & Mary at 4:00.
