Tyler Mudd and Michael Farinelli combine for 13 strikeouts to put away William & Mary
WILLIAMSBURG, Va. — Boston College Baseball (6-2, 0-0) won their fourth straight game, and second of the weekend, with a 9-7 victory over William & Mary (8-2, 0-0) on Saturday night.
The Eagles struck first, in similar fashion as Friday. With two outs, Patrick Roche (Milton, Mass.) singled to right field to put runners on first and second. In the next at-bat, Sam McNulty (Cambridge, Mass.) continued his hot streak at the plate, driving a two-RBI single through the left side to open up an early 2-0 lead.
The Tribe answered with six runs in the bottom of the second, chasing starter A.J. Colarusso.
Enter Tyler Mudd out of the bullpen.
Tyler Mudd (Shrewsbury, Mass.) with one win and one save in two appearances, delivered his third great outing in as many chances, earning the win (2-0), allowing just one run and three hits in 4.1 innings pitched, and punching out eight batters, including the final two batters of the seventh inning, stranding the tying and go-ahead runners on second and third in a one-run game.
The Eagles offense complemented Mudd's showing on the mound, scoring six runs over his four innings. McNulty drove in the tying run in the fifth, as a part of a three-RBI day, on a sacrifice fly to score Vince Cimini (Scranton, Pa.). The Tribe took the lead back in the bottom of the frame, but the Eagles answered right away, courtesy of a game-tying RBI single from Cameron Leary (Bethpage, N.Y.) and the go-ahead RBI single from Cimini, putting BC up for good in the sixth.
Michael Farinelli (New York, N.Y.) took over for Mudd in the seventh and delivered three lights-out innings of work to close the door, earning the three-inning save (1). Farinelli and Mudd combined for 13 strikeouts and just one run in 7.1 innings of relief.Â
The Eagles will look to go 3-0 on the weekend at VCU on Sunday at 1:00 p.m.
