Eagles Defeat FGCU in a 10-Inning Thriller

FORT MYERS, Fla.-- Abby Dunning struck out 12 batters and held FGCU scoreless for four innings as BC defeated FGCU, 4-3 in 10-innings, to improve to 3-0 on the season at the FGCU Softball Complex Friday night. The Eagles scored 4 runs on 6 hits.Â
In the top of the third Emma Jackson drew a walk, and thanks to a Gator Robinson sacrifice bunt, stole second. A fielder's choice on a Kali Case single to right field put the Eagles in scoring position. Hannah Slike singled to the shortstop to bring in Jackson and Case. The FGCU Eagles tied the game in the bottom of the fifth, scoring 2 runs. The score remained tied through 7-innings.Â
In the ninth inning with Jackson on second, a Robinson bunt left Jackson on third, and a high fly ball to center field by Elisabeth Laviolette put Jackson on the board. The FGCU Eagles tied the game 3-3 in the bottom of the ninth. BC scored another run in the tenth off a Meghan Schouten line drive to right field to retake the lead, and win the game.Â
The Eagles return to action tomorrow at 10 a.m. against LIU then at 12:15 p.m. against Georgetown for the final games of the FGCU Tournament.Â
