Boston College Rally Falls Short to Florida State

CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. — Boston College fell to Florida State, 63-62, on Tuesday night at Conte Forum in the 23rd all-time meeting between the two programs. The Eagles fell to 13-9 on the season and 4-7 in ACC play. Graduate student Quinten Post eclipsed 1,000 collegiate points in today's game, leading the charge with 21 points and 12 boards (both game highs). Junior Jaeden Zackery and sophomore Devin McGlockton finished with 11 and 10 points, respectively. The Eagles had possession with a chance to take the lead in the final five seconds, but Florida State pulled off a late defensive stand.
FIRST HALF
● McGlockton scored the first basket for the Eagles at the 16:21 mark.
● Midway through the first half, the Eagles went on a 11-2 scoring run to cut into the Seminoles' lead. BC trailed 23-18 with 10 minutes left until halftime.
● After the run, Florida State held the Eagles scoreless for over four minutes. BC missed six consecutive shots during the drought. FSU led 29-18.
● The Eagles made a push on offense late in the half. Post drained a triple at the 3:10 mark to narrow the gap to four, 35-31.
● BC trailed 37-31 at halftime. Post (10 points) was the only player to notch double figures in the first half.
● Boston College shot 12-33 (36.4%) from the field, 5-17 (29.4%) from three-point range and 2-2 (100%) from the free throw line in the first half.
● Florida State shot 16-35 (45.7%) from the field, 3-10 (30.0%) from three-point range and 2-2 (100%) from the free throw line in the first half.
SECOND HALF
● Zackery buried a mid-range jumper to open the half for the Eagles.
● Boston College went on an early 8-0 run in the second half. The Eagles held the Seminoles scoreless for over four minutes during the streak. BC trailed by five, 42-37.
● Mason Madsen and Post made back-to-back triples to tie the game at 52 with just over eight minutes to play.
● Florida State took a timeout at the 2:13 mark, holding a slim 61-60 lead.
● The Seminoles came up with a late defensive stop when BC had the chance to take the lead in the final five seconds.
● Boston College shot 12-26 (46.2%) from the field, 3-10 (30.0%) from three-point range and 4-4 (100%) from the free throw line in the second half.
● Florida State shot 12-29 (41.4%) from the field, 2-9 (22.2%) from three-point range and 0-2 (0%) from the free throw line in the second half.
HIGHLIGHTS
● Boston College finished 24-59 (40.7%) from the field, 8-27 (29.6%) from three-point range and 6-6 (100%) from the free throw line.
● Florida State finished 28-64 (43.8%) from the field, 5-19 (26.3%) from three-point range and 2-4 (50.0%) from the free throw line.
● Three players finished in double figures for the Eagles in Post (21), Zackery (11), and McGlockton (10).
● BC controlled the rebound battle by a margin of 40-32.
● Post finished with a double-double, 21 points and 12 rebounds (both game highs).
● Zackery finished with five assists and three steals (both team highs).
NOTES
● Today's game marks the 23rd meeting between the two schools and is the first of two regular season matchups in 2023-24.
● Boston College is 9-14 all-time vs. Florida State. The Eagles are 7-4 all-time against Florida State at Conte Forum.
● BC moved to 8-4 at home, 0-1 in February, 10-4 in night games, and 9-6 on weekdays.
● Boston College is 4-18 and 0-5 in ACC play in games played on the February 6 calendar date.
● The Eagles are 4-3 in games decided by five points or less this season.
● With last Tuesday's 80-75 home win over Syracuse, the Eagles finished the month of January with a record of 4-5.
● Post surpassed 1,000 collegiate points in the game. The 7-footer has tallied 1,018 points in 109 games between Mississippi State and Boston College. Since arriving at BC in 2021-22, Post has scored 923 points in 71 games in an Eagles' uniform (13.0 PPG).

● Boston College travels to Durham, N.C. this weekend to take on No. 9/10 Duke on Saturday, Feb. 10. Tip-off is scheduled for 2:00 p.m. The game will be televised nationally on ESPN.
