February 05, 2024 | Men's Hockey
Perrault scores twice in Boston College's comeback attempt.
BOSTON, Mass. – No. 1 Boston College men's hockey fell short for the first time in six games, dropping a 4-3 contest to No. 3 Boston University in the Beanpot Semifinals at TD Garden. Gabe Perrault (Hinsdale, Ill.) and Gentry Shamburger (Atlanta, Ga.) found the back of the net for BC as the Eagles now stand at 19-5-1 overall.
Both sides came out of the gates firing, combining for 32 shots on goal in the opening period. Boston University struck early in the first, followed by a power play goal to double the lead midway through the period. Freshman goaltender Jacob Fowler (Melbourne, Fla.) was able to regroup after the second score, tallying 17 saves heading into the first intermission.
The Eagles slowed down the pace in period two, showing patience in the offensive zone for multiple looks each attack. Perrault broke the ice for Boston College on a power play, netting a one-timer from Will Smith (Lexington, Mass.) and Eamon Powell (Marcellus, N.Y.) for his 11th goal of the season.
Halfway into the second, BU took advantage of a turnover in the BC's defensive zone, extending the lead back to two heading into the final period of regulation.
After an early goal by the Terriers in period three, Shamburger would score his first goal of the year, netting one just inside the left post to make it a 2-4 game. The Eagles would respond with another a few minutes later with Gabe Perrault's second goal of the season to cut the Terrier lead to one. Â
