
Eagles Outlast Tar Heels in Senior Night Victory

CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. - The seniors for Boston College women's basketball went out on a high note on Senior Night with a 78-74 win over North Carolina on Thursday evening in Conte Forum.Â
The Eagles snap a 10-game skid, improving to 12-18 and 4-13 in the ACC. UNC drops to 18-11 and 10-7 in the league.Â
JoJo Lacey had her best game in a BC uniform, pouring in a career-high 23 points on 8-of-15 shooting and five 3-pointers. Lacey also tied a team-best with rebounds.Â
T'yana Todd totaled 13 points and four steals, while Teya Sidberry also scored 13 with eight off the glass. Dontavia Waggoner scored 10 of her 12 points in the second half and registered eight rebounds (five offensive). Kaylah Ivey led the Eagles with eight assists.Â
BC came out strong out of the gate as they hit six of their first 10 shot attempts en route to a 16-7 advantage. Four of the makes were 3-pointers. Sidberry's layup at the end of the first period gave BC a 19-12 lead going into the second period. BC held UNC to just 5-of-18 shooting from the field.Â
The Eagles fended off UNC in the second quarter, as they made a shot each time the Tar Heels got to within one possession. After the visitors hit a pair at the line, Todd drained a trifecta to send BC to a 35-29 cushion going into the half.Â
A 9-of-13 stretch highlighted by six straight field goals late in the third going into the fourth stretch BC's lead to 16 after a layup from Waggoner. Sidberry's free throws with 7:36 left in the game gave BC its largest lead at 64-46.Â
UNC wouldn't go away quietly, narrowing the gap to three with 12 seconds left after a Tar Heel free throw. Todd made one down at the other end to seal the triumph.Â
BC hit a season-high 10 3-pointers and assisted on 17 of 24 field goals. The defense UNC to under 40 percent from the floor and 19.2 percent (5-26) shooting from deep.Â
The Eagles finish the regular season on Sunday at 12 p.m. against Pittsburgh on the road.Â
