February 24, 2024 | Baseball
Cam Caraher, John Collins, Parker Landwehr all log RBI doubles in the win
ARLINGTON, Tx. — Boston College Baseball (3-2, 0-0) forced a Sunday rubber match with a 3-0 win over UT Arlington (3-4, 0-0) on Saturday afternoon.
A.J. Colarusso (Leominster, Mass.) got the start for the Eagles and delivered his second strong start in as many outings, picking up his first win of the year (1-1) after tossing 5.2 scoreless innings with five strikeouts and just one walk. Tyler Mudd (Shrewsbury, Mass.), who delivered a lights-out relief appearance on Opening Day, ran it back on Saturday, taking over for Colarusso in the 5th, ending the inning on one pitch, and earned the three-inning save (1) with 3.1 shutout frames, striking out four and issuing just one free pass.
The bats woke up in the fifth inning, started off by a two-out, RBI double from Cam Caraher (Plymouth, Mass.) to drive in Cameron Leary (Bethpage, N.Y.). John Collins (New York, N.Y.) followed suit, driving an RBI double of his own into the right-center gap as a part of a two-out, two-run rally to put the Eagles up for good in the fifth inning.
Parker Landwehr (Baltimore, Md.) took over at catcher in the seventh inning and picked up right where Collins left off, driving in Adam Magpoc (Torrance, Ca.) for an insurance RBI double in the seventh.
Caraher went 2-for-3 at the plate with a double and RBI. Patrick Roche (Milton, Mass.) made his first start of the season leading off at DH, and added the fourth BC double of the day.
Mudd escaped a jam in the final frame after loading the bases, striking out the following two batters and forcing a pop-out to end it. In two relief appearances, the Shrewsbury native is 1-0 with one save, nine strikeouts, while allowing just three hits and two walks in 8.1 scoreless innings to start his BC career.
Colarusso improves his season ERA to 1.86 with 13 strikeouts over 9.2 innings pitched, which leads the staff.
The Eagles will play for the series on Sunday at 1:30 ET.
