Farinelli, Fisse lead the Eagles to 2-1 weekend at MLB Desert Invitational

Kyle Wolff and Nick Wang leave the yard in 12-run outburst
Michael Farinelli (New York, N.Y.) got the start for the Eagles and delivered four lights-out innings, holding California to no runs on just two hits, all while punching out seven of the 16 batters he faced.
The bats woke up right away, and set up by leadoff walks to open the game, Kyle Wolff (Andover, Mass.) broke the tie in the top of the first with an RBI single, his first of four RBIs and first of three hits on the afternoon. Wolff went yard in his next at-bat the following inning, bringing home Barry Walsh (Sterling, Mass.), who went 2-for-3 with two RBIs and three runs, while reaching base four times out of the leadoff spot.
Vince Cimini (Scranton Pa.) and Parker Landwehr (Baltimore, Md.) each added RBIs in the first to take a 3-0 lead into the second inning. Landwehr joined Wolff in the three-hit club, going 3-for-5 with two key singles in the 7th and 8th, scoring an important insurance run on a Barry Walsh infield single.
After homering in the season opener, Nick Wang (Newton, Mass.) doubled his 2024 long-ball tally in the 7th inning to silence a sixth-inning Cal rally. From the long ball to small ball, Sam McNulty (Cambridge, Mass.) laid down a beauty of a sacrifice bunt to bring Cam Caraher (Plymouth, Mass.) home from third in the sixth inning.
The middle-infield duo of McNulty and Vince Cimini dazzled in the field, first spinning a tailor-made 4-6-3 double play to leave the bases loaded in the fourth. McNulty ended the seventh inning on a 6-5 putout, ranging deep to his left to get the lead runner and end the frame. In the following inning, Cimini made one of the plays of the weekend, stabbing a hard grounder and making the throw to first from the ground as a part of a 1-2-3 eighth.
Jordan Fisse (Ridgewood, N.J.) earned the win for Boston College, coming in for the last three innings and holding Cal to one hit and no runs to end it.
The Eagles will turn their attention to UT Arlington for another road series next weekend.
