Starter A.J. Colarusso struck out eight batters in four innings in the loss
SCOTTSDALE, Az. — Boston College Baseball (1-1, 0-0) dropped game two of the MLB Desert Invitational, 6-4 to No. 24 Kansas State on Saturday afternoon at Sloan Park.
Sophomore A.J. Colarusso (0-1) got the start for the Eagles and delivered a strong outing, striking out eight of the 17 batters he faced, allowing just three hits and two runs, both earned, over four innings of work. Kansas State built up a 5-0 lead through the first six frames, but a seventh-inning rally sparked by consecutive singles from Nick Wang (Newton, Mass.) and Kyle Wolff (Andover, Mass.) led to a game-changing grand slam from Vince Cimini (Scranton, Pa.), his second home run in as many days, making it a 5-4 ballgame.
Cameron Leary (Bethpage, N.Y.) reached to leadoff the bottom of the ninth but Kansas State reliever Blake Dean earned the save by retiring the next three batters.
The Eagles will turn to Sunday and future conference opponent California in the final game of the MLB Desert Invitational at 5:00 ET at Salt River Fields at Talking Stick.
