Eagles Defeat UIC in Extra Innings

TAMPA, Fla.-- Boston College defeated UIC with a 4-3 victory in extra-innings at the USF Softball Complex, Thursday afternoon. Left fielder Jules Shields led the way for the Eagles, dominating in the box with four hits and two runs on 4 at-bats, with a batting average of .545.
In the top of the fourth the Eagles got on the board early. With Shields on third, a fielder's choice got her through home plate. The Eagles continued to score in the inning securing three runs. With Hannah Slike and Nicole Giery on base, Shields doubled to bring Slike and Giery home. Jordan Stephens kept the momentum going with a single to left field bringing home Shields and Slike. The Flames responded in the bottom of the fifth adding on three runs and one run in the sixth. Leaving the score locked through seven-innings.Â
The game remained scoreless through the 10th inning. In the top of the 11th, with Meghan Schouten placed on second. A Robinson bunt moved Schouten to third, and an Emma Jackson grounder to second brought Schouten through home. Abby Dunning made quick work of UIC in the bottom of the 11th, giving the Eagles its first win of the day.Â
The Eagles return to action tonight at 6:30 p.m. against USF.
