Women's Basketball Soars Past UVA in ACC Opener

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. - Boston College women's basketball earned a 72-57 win in the ACC opener against Virginia on Sunday afternoon in JPJ Arena.Â
The Eagles snap a three-game skid, improving to 7-4 and 1-0 in ACC play. UVA falls to 6-5 and 0-1 in the league.Â
T'yana Todd led the way with a game and season high 21 points, with 19 of her points coming in the first half. Todd shot 8-of-14 from the floor with five trifectas.
Teya Sidberry posted 12 points (10 in the second half), grabbed a team-best seven rebounds and dished out three assists. Andrea Daley chipped in with 12 to round out the leading scorers, while adding three assists and three rebounds.Â
Todd led the charge in the first quarter, scoring 14 points on five field goals and four from beyond the arc. The junior guard scored the final eight points of the first period to give BC a 22-17 going into the second.Â
BC's defense stymied the Cavaliers in the second frame, holding them to just 11 points and held UVA scoreless for 3:48. The Eagles went on a 6-of-7 stretch from the field early in the quarter. A Kennedi Jackson layup with under two minutes left gave the Eagles a 39-24 lead, eventually taking a 41-28 score into the break.Â
The advantage stretched to 18 midway in the third period thanks to baskets by JaKayla Thompson and Daley. The Eagles' lead never went below 13 points in the frame, leading to a 54-39 showing heading into the fourth.Â
Boston College stayed in control in the fourth, hitting six of its final eight shots to clinch its first win in Charlottesville since 2011.Â
Nine of 11 players who saw action scored and six players dished out multiple assists led by Kaylah Ivey's five.
The Eagles forced Virginia into a season-high 22 turnovers and 2-of-23 shooting from deep.Â
Boston College returns home on Wednesday to face in-state rival, UMass, at 11 a.m. in Conte Forum.Â
