
BC Outlasts UMass in Elementary Day Game

CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. - Boston College women's basketball outlasted UMass in a 62-57 victory on Wednesday afternoon in Conte Forum on Elementary Day.
The Eagles stay unbeaten at home with a 6-0 record and improve to 8-4 overall. UMass falls to 4-6 on the season.
Head coach Joanna Bernabei-McNamee became the third head coach in program history to reach 100 wins at Boston College.
Teya Sidberry led the Eagles in scoring with 11 points, highlighted by a 5-of-6 showing at the line. The junior forward corralled six rebounds, blocked two shots with a pair of steals.
Savannah Samuel came off the bench, scoring nine of her 10 points in the second half. Nene Ndiaye rounded out the leading scorers with nine points on four baskets. The duo of Samuel and Ndiaye scored 16 of the Eagles' points in the second on 7-of-11 shooting.
Andrea Daley recorded a career-best 14 rebounds with seven points, two assists and two steals.Â
With the game tied 53-all, BC scored nine of the final 13 points over the last 2:01 of the game. Samuel delivered the dagger with her lone trifecta to give BC a six-point edge, leading the Eagles to pull out the triumph for their seventh straight win in the series.
BC held UMass to just 4-of-16 shooting over the last 12 minutes of the contest and forced the visitors to miss five of their last six shots.
The Eagles trailed for the majority of the contest until late in the third quarter when Ndiaye spearheaded a 10-0 run, scoring five points during the run. A Samuel layup and a 3-pointer by Kaylah Ivey capped off the surge to give BC a 49-43 going into the fourth.
UMass led by as much as eight in the first half before the Eagles put together a 7-2 spurt to slice the gap to three going into the half, 32-29.
A 5-of-6 performance from 3-point land for UMass highlighted the first quarter, giving the Minutewomen a 21-16 advantage after the first.
BC received 31 points from its reserves while owning the glass, 43-33.
The Eagles face Bryant on Sunday at 12 p.m. in Conte Forum.
