Eagles Sweep Notre Dame

Eagles secure its first win against the Fighting Irish since 2015
CHESTNUT HILL, Mass.-- The Boston College volleyball team dominated the Fighting Irish, collecting their eighth sweep of the year, defeating Notre Dame for the first time since 2015, with set scores of 25-23, 25-19, and 25-17. The Eagles improved to 12-13 and 5-8 in conference play.
Audrey Ross led the Eagles adding 14 kills, hitting .258, she added two aces, four blocks and five digs. Halle Schroder followed adding 12 kills and nine digs. The offense was guided by Aubrey Moore adding 22 assists, while the back row was led by Brooklyn Yelland adding 11 digs. Julia Haggerty dominated the net leading the night with five blocks.
HOW IT HAPPENED
SET 1: The Eagles raced off to a 6-3 lead to start the opening set before Notre Dame collected three of the next five points to put the Fighting Irish within two. Until a two point swing for the Eagles put them up by four, 12-8. The Fighting Irish gathered themselves in response to the run with four straight points, both teams traded points once. BC kept their foot on the gas with a 3-0 run. Notre Dame once again responded on a four point run, claiming the lead, 19-17. The Eagles responded on a three point run of their own forcing a ND timeout. The match tied three more times until a quick two points by Schroder and Ross regained the lead, 23-21. The teams traded points once more until a kill by Ross closed the first set; 25-23.
SET 2: The Eagles got off to another solid start, surging to a 10-4 lead, before a Morgan Riddle ace forced a ND timeout. Both teams traded points three times, before a 7-1 Irish run locked the set at 14. BC responded on its own run adding four straight with a block and kill by Haggerty. The Eagles held the lead forcing another ND timeout, 20-16. The teams continued to go back-and-forth until a ND service error and an ace by Yelland put the Eagles in set point. The Fighting Irish survived for one set point, but Haggerty ended the second set with a big-time swing to give BC a 25-19 victory and a 2-0 advantage in the match.
SET 3: With the third set opening with the Eagles up by one. BC went on a 7-1 scoring run, starting with a kill from Ross and ending with a block by Roach and Schroder. Notre Dame scored two in a row to get within five, both teams traded points until BC collected five straight to take a 10 point lead. The Eagles held the lead through the set closing the match on a Ross kill, 25-17. Ross and Schroder collected six kills in the third, Ross led the way hitting .417 in the final set.
The Eagles return to action Sunday at 1:00 to face No. 4 Louisville in the Margot Connell Rec Center.
