Haggerty and Ross lead Eagles to Sweep of NC State

The duo combined for 26 kills as the volleyball team topped the Wolfpack in three sets.
RALEIGH, N.C.-- The Boston College volleyball team earned their seventh sweep of the season Sunday afternoon on the road against NC State (12-8, 7-5 ACC) with set scores of 26-24, 26-24, and 25-23. The Eagles improved to 11-13 and 4-8 in conference play.Â
Julia Haggerty had a dominant performance on the net with her first double-double of the season adding 10 kills on a .714 hitting percentage, and 11 blocks through three sets of play.Â
BC was led by Audrey Ross, who finished the match with 16 kills on 36 total attacks. Halle Schroder and Sophia Lambros led the defense with nine digs, while Aubrey Moore guided the offense with 14 assists. Moore added three aces in the victory Sunday afternoon.Â
HOW IT HAPPENED
SET 1: The Wolfpack opened the first set on a two point lead before the Eagles collected seven of the next eight points led by Ross adding two kills, forcing a NC State timeout, 8-5. The Wolfpack gathered themselves in response to the run with four straight points, but the Eagles were able to respond grabbing three of the next four points. Both teams fought back-and-forth, locking the score nine times. The Eagles tied the set 24-24 on a Ross kill followed by another to secure the lead. The Eagles closed out the first set on a Aubrey Moore ace. Ross led the Eagles offense through the opening set adding four kills.
SET 2: BC got off to another solid start, opening to a 3-1 lead before the Wolfpack secured five of the next six points and turned the score in NC State's favor, 7-5. The Wolfpack secured the largest lead of the set going into the media timeout, 15-9. The Eagles would not go away without a fight claiming five of the next seven points forcing another NC State timeout. BC continued to battle back from the early deficit, landing within one, 20-19. NC State went on 3-0 run to take a 23-19 lead forcing a BC timeout. Both teams traded points right out of the timeout, leaving NC State one away from capturing the set. The Eagles pushed through four Wolfpack set points, on a 6-0 run to secure the second set, and a 2-0 advantage in the match. The run was led by Ross with two kills and an ace by Moore to close out the set, 26-24. Ross was prominent again in the second set with six kills. Â
SET 3: The third set started much like the first two. BC used multiple two-point swings to take a 7-3 lead. The Wolfpack evened the score on a three point run, 7-7. However, the Eagles regained the lead 9-8 for NC State to immediately respond evening the score 10-all. Both teams traded points, but the Wolfpack went on a five point run to take a five point lead. NC State held its five point lead into a BC timeout, 18-13. The Eagles emerged from the timeout gaining four of the next six points forcing a Wolfpack timeout. BC continued to push through the score deficit landing itself within two forcing NC State's hand into another timeout. The Eagles went on to score five of the next six points to regain the lead late in the third set, 24-22. BC closed out the third set in dominant fashion, outsourcing the Wolfpack 10-3 down the stretch. The Eagles closed out the set on a Ross kill, 25-23. Haggerty came alive in the third frame with six kills, putting her in double-figures for the match, to help the Eagles collect another sweep this season.Â
