DURHAM, N.C. – Boston College Volleyball (12-10, 3-8 ACC) dropped a four-set decision (25-18, 21-25, 18-25, 20-25) to Duke (15-6, 7-4 ACC) on Friday evening at Cameron Indoor Stadium.
Audrey Ross led the Boston College offense with a team-high 16 kills while hitting .333 to go along with eight digs and a service ace. Sam Hoppes joined her in double figures, putting down 12 kills on a .355 hitting percentage alongside seven block assists. Middle blocker Chloe Allcroft posted a career night at the net, anchoring the BC defense with a match-high 10 blocks (one solo, nine assists) as the Eagles out-blocked Duke 13.0 to 4.0. Brooklyn Yelland registered a team-best 15 digs and seven assists, while setting duties were split between Lucy Mott (17 assists, five digs, one ace) and Lucie Vesela (14 assists, six digs).
Boston College set the tone early in the opening set, hitting a blistering .394 as a team. Tied at 8-8 mid-set, the Eagles unleashed a 5-0 run behind the serve of Mott, highlighted by kills from Naomi Watson, Isabelle Poehlein, and Ross, to open up a 13-8 cushion. A Mott service ace made it 21-14 before Poehlein put away the set-ending kill to seal the 25-18 opening win.
Duke took an early 14-7 lead in the second set, but the Eagles mounted a furious comeback. Trailing 16-11, Boston College executed an 8-0 surge featuring four blocks from Allcroft and Hoppes and a kill from Ava Castro to flip the score to a 19-16 Boston College lead. However, Duke responded with a 6-0 run of its own to reclaim a 22-19 margin before closing out the set 25-21 to level the match.
The Eagles grabbed an early 8-4 advantage in the third frame following consecutive blocks by Hoppes and Allcroft. The teams traded points to a 14-14 deadlock before the Blue Devils executed an 8-0 run to pull away for a 22-14 lead. Kills from Hoppes late in the set trimmed the gap, but Duke held on for the 25-18 set victory to take a 2-1 match lead.
Duke created separation early in the fourth frame, but the Eagles continued to battle, cutting an 18-12 deficit down to two at 21-19 after a Ross kill. However, the Blue Devils converted on crucial late-set swings to take the frame 25-20 and close out the 3-1 victory.
