
Eagles Drop Five Set Thriller to Clemson

Three Eagle double-doubles is not enough to defeat the Tigers
CLEMSON, S.C.-- The Boston College volleyball team dropped a five set match to Clemson with set scores of 22-25, 25-17, 25-18, 20-25, and 12-15. After taking the second and third sets, Clemson caught fire in the fourth and turned that momentum into a five-set victory.Â
Individually, BC was led by Audrey Ross who notched 18 kills, a season high, in the effort. Three Eagles notched double-doubles on the night. Setter duo of Aubrey Moore and Sophia Lambros added 23 and 26 assists respectively, and 15 and 14 digs each. While Halle Schroder tallied her 11th double-double of the season with 16 kills and 11 digs. Libero Brooklyn Yelland added 15 digs and seven assists. Cornelia Roach led the defense on the net adding a career high nine blocks including three solos, while adding a season high five kills and 11 points.   Â
HOW IT HAPPENED
SET 1: Clemson gained control of the opening set on a four point run to take a 10-7 lead. The Eagles worked their way back on multiple two point runs but the Tigers answered taking a four point advantage, 20-16. Clemson closed out the first set 25-20.Â
SET 2: The momentum shifted in the second set as the Eagles were able to gain a two point lead early in the set, 9-7. Clemson responded, gaining four straight points, but BC answered taking its own four points led by back-to-back kills by Ross and consecutive blocks by Julia Haggerty, creating a two point lead. Both teams traded points locking the score twice, until a three point run forced a Clemson timeout. The Eagles continued to march going on a 3-1 run forcing another Tiger timeout. BC closed out the set gaining four of the last five points, 25-17. The Eagles had the best hitting percentage of the night in the second set hitting .385, led by Ross adding six kills on a .556 hitting percentage.Â
SET 3: The Eagles set two momentum continued into the third. BC shot out to a 7-4 lead, and continued to push, gaining three of the next four points off of Tiger errors and a Schroder kill. Both teams traded points until two consecutive team blocks by the Eagles, the first by Anna Herrington and Haggerty and the next a solo block by Roach forced a Clemson timeout. BC gained five of the next six points out of the timeout led by two Schroder kills, 23-12. The Tigers went on two, three point runs, only for the Eagles to close out the third set on a Ross kill, 25-18. Â
SET 4: The momentum began to swing in the fourth set. After dominating the offense attack in the second and third set, BC hit .152 in the fourth adding six attack errors. As a result, Clemson was able to keep pace. The Tigers made their move midway through the fourth set and then later took a 17-15 advantage. Another run a few points after, gave the Tigers a 21-19 lead, which the Eagles couldn't overcome. Clemson went on to win the set 25-20 to push the match to a fifth and deciding set.Â
SET 5: The Eagles held a narrow lead for the beginning portion of the best to 15 decider. Clemson answered on a three point run into the media timeout, 8-5. The Eagles responded on their own three point run to lock the score at eight forcing a Tiger timeout. The Eagles continued to show effort but were unable to match the multiple point runs the Tigers accumulated.They closed the set earning four of the last six, to take down the Eagles with a set five score of, 15-12.Â

The Eagles continue play on the road traveling to No. 15 Georgia Tech to face-off the Yellow Jackets Sunday at 1:00 p.m.
