Volleyball Falls to No.15 Miami

CORAL GABLES, Fla. – The Boston College volleyball team (15-8, 4-7 ACC) fell 3-0 (25-22, 25-19, 25-16) to No.15 Miami (18-4, 8-3 ACC) on Halloween Friday night.

Senior Anna Herrington and sophomore Sequoia Layne led the Eagles with nine kills apiece. Herrington added two kills and 10 points. Aubrey Moore guided the Eagles offensive effort posting 14 assists, Lucy Mott close behind with 10. Cornelia Roach, Bella Ehrlich and Anna Herrington all added two block assists. Brooklyn Yelland and Aubrey Moore both posted six digs.

The Hurricanes came out strong taking an early 11-6 lead, forcing an Eagle timeout. The Eagles came back, responding with a 5-3 run to get within three of the Hurricanes. Boston College kept battling, getting within a pair of points thanks to an ace from Savannah Curtis, the Eagles trailed 17-15. With a kill from Herrington and block assists from Grace Milliken and Herrington put the Eagles within 1, trailing 19-18. Going on a 4-0 scoring run with two kills from Herrington, the Eagles took the first lead of the set, 22-20. The Hurricanes responded with two points to even the score at 22, forcing a BC timeout. A final 3-0 run from Miami secured the first set for the Hurricanes, 25-22.

The Eagles started the second set strong with a 3-1 lead. Miami came back fighting, holding a 15-10 lead at the media timeout. The Hurricanes offense prevailed, extending their lead to seven, forcing a BC timeout. The Eagles rallied behind a kill from Layne and an ace from Moore, cutting the deficit to 19–14. A 4–0 BC run – highlighted by kills from Marjanovic, a block assist from Marjanovic and Roach, and an ace from Yelland — brought the Eagles within three at 21–19. However, Miami responded with a 4–0 run of its own to close the set, taking it 25–19.

Starting strong with a 5-0 lead, the Hurricanes forced an early BC timeout. The Hurricanes offense charge intensified moving to a 10-3 lead. The Eagles responded with a 3-0 run featuring a kill from Layne, a solo block from Ehrlich, and an ace from Roach to cut the gap to four. The Hurricanes countered with a 5–2 run to extend their lead to 15–8. The two teams traded points late in the set, with BC calling timeout down 20–13. Despite late kills from Layne and Herrington, Miami held strong to take the third set, 25–16.
