Madelieve Drion’s overtime goal gives Eagles sixth consecutive win
NEWTON, Mass. - No. 11 Boston College (8-2, 3-0 ACC) took down No. 3 Virginia (9-1, 3-1 ACC) by a score of 3-2 in overtime on Friday evening.Â
The action started in the first quarter, as Pia Serowik tipped in a pass from Kiki de Bruijne and Eva Kluskens to put the Eagles up 1-0. Just 56 seconds into the second quarter, Mia Garber found Elisa Brauel-Jahnke in front of the net, who made it 2-0. The Eagles would carry the 2-0 lead into the half.
The Cavaliers would get on the board five minutes into the third quarter, as Dani Mendez-Trendler found the back of the net. With less than four minutes to play in regulation, Taryn Tkachuk connected with Mendez-Trendler for her second of the night to send the game to overtime.
Virginia started overtime down a woman due to a late fourth quarter card and BC capitalized, as Madelieve Drion fired a shot from just inside the circle to give the Eagles their sixth consecutive win.
The Cavaliers had the edge over the Eagles in shots (10-3), shots on goal (6-3), and penalty corners (5-1), but the Eagles had the edge in saves (4-0), as Charlotte Kramer stood tall in net, making a number of diving saves.
With their sixth win in a row, the Eagles are now tied for the fifth-longest winning streak in program history. This was also the 19th win over a top-five opponent in program history.
Up next: BC is back in action this Sunday at 1 p.m as they take on UMass Amherst on the road. The game will be streamed live on ESPN Plus.
