Volleyball Falls in Five-Set Thriller to No. 19 FSU

Julia Haggerty becomes the all-time BC record leader in career blocks
CHESTNUT HILL, Mass.-- The Boston College Volleyball team fell to No. 19 Florida State, with set scores of, 19-25, 25-15, 25-22, 22-25, and 11-15. After dropping the first set and capturing the next two, the Seminoles were able to secure the fourth and turned that momentum into a five-set come from behind victory.
Individually, the Eagles were led by Audrey Ross who notched 18 kills, Halle Schroder tallied her ninth double-double of the season adding on 16 kills and 12 digs. Sam Hoppes added a career-high 11 kills, leading BC with a .370 hitting percentage.
The offense was guided by Sophia Lambros and Aubrey Moore adding a combined 46 assists, with Moore adding 25. Â
The defense was led by Julia Haggerty who led the match in blocks adding nine. While the back row was led by Brooklyn Yelland contributing 22 digs.
Haggerty became the all-time Boston College record leader in career blocks in the match against FSU notching her 462 career block.Â
HOW IT HAPPENED
SET 1: Florida State got off to an early 7-3 lead in the first set. The Eagles fought back tying the set at 14-all off a 5-1 run. The Seminoles continued to respond, gaining a three point lead, and keeping a two or more lead the remainder of the set. The 'Noles closed out the set gaining four of the last five points, 25-19.
SET 2: The second set was dominated by the Eagles, hitting a match high .387 percent, with Audrey Ross adding seven kills in the 25-15 set. FSU opened the second set strong, gaining a 6-3 advantage until a four point run provided the Eagles the edge. The score was tied once more until BC controlled the remainder of the set. The Eagles went on multiple four point runs to close out the set, 25-15.
SET 3: BC controlled the opening set from the beginning, earning three of the first four points. The Seminoles got within striking distance but were unable to surpass the Eagles. FSU was within two, 17-15. The Eagles responded, gaining six of the next eight points securing the set, 25-22.
SET 4: Set four was another battle, as both teams went back and forth. FSU was the first to create some separation, taking a four-point lead, 6-3. The Eagles answered earning eight straight points, flipping the leader, 17-13 Eagles. FSU went on its own run taking a one-point edge as they fought to keep the match alive, down 2-1. The Eagles tied to set 22-all until a three point scoring run by the 'Noles closed out the set, 25-22.Â
SET 5: In the deciding set, BC held a 8-5 advantage entering the midway media timeout. However FSU shot out on a four point run taking a 9-8 lead. The Eagles regained the lead off of a Audrey Ross kill and Morgan Riddle ace forcing a FSU timeout. The 'Noles rallied for six of the last seven points closing the match 15-11.Â

The Eagles return to action Sunday as they face Miami, in the Margot Connell Recreation Center, at 1:00 p.m.
