Harris Propels Eagles Past Syracuse, 80-75

Claudell Harris Jr. sparked the Eagles from three-point territory in the second half
CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. — Boston College defeated Syracuse, 80-75, on Tuesday night at Conte Forum in the 85th all-time meeting between the two programs. With the win, the Eagles improved to 13-8 on the season and 4-6 in ACC play. Junior Claudell Harris Jr. led the way for the Eagles with a game-high 19 points and five 3-pointers. Sophomore Devin McGlockton and junior Jaeden Zackery each contributed 15 points.
FIRST HALF:
● Zackery put the Eagles on the board first with a mid-range jumper. The Eagles held Syracuse scoreless for over four minutes to open the game.
● Mason Madsen and McGlockton spearheaded a 14-0 surge to end the half.
● The Eagles made nine of their final 11 shots - while the Orange missed their last six - and BC led 37-30 at the break.
● Boston College shot 14-24 (58.3%) from the field, 4-8 (50.0%) from three-point range and 5-7 (71.4%) from the free throw line in the first half.
● Syracuse shot 12-32 (37.5%) from the field, 3-10 (30.0%) from three-point range and 3-4 (75.0%) from the free throw line in the first half.
SECOND HALF:
● The Eagles scored on each of their first three possessions, capping off the team's largest scoring run of the season (21-0). BC led 44-30.
● Harris caught fire from three-point range late in the half, draining four 3-pointers in a four-minute span. BC extended their lead back to double-digits, 72-59, with just over four minutes remaining.
● The Eagles made eight of their last nine shots of the game.
● The Eagles never surrendered the lead in the second half.
● Boston College shot 16-26 (61.5%) from the field, 6-12 (50.0%) from three-point range and 5-10 (50.0%) from the free throw line in the second half.
● Syracuse shot 18-32 (56.3%) from the field, 5-13 (38.5%) from three-point range and 4-10 (40.0%) from the free throw line in the second half.
HIGHLIGHTS:
● Boston College finished 30-50 (60.0%) from the field, 10-20 (50.0%) from three-point range and 10-17 (58.8%) from the free throw line.
● Harris (19), Zackery (15), and McGlockton (15) each finished in double figures for the Eagles. Three players finished in double figures for the Orange.
● BC controlled the boards in the game, out-rebounding the Orange by 10 (37-27).
● Quinten Post finished with a game-high 12 rebounds.
NOTES:
● Today's game marked the 85th meeting between the two schools.
● The Eagles snapped an 11-game losing streak vs. the Orange, splitting the season series. Prior to today's win, the last win against Syracuse came on Feb. 28, 2018 (85-70).
● BC advanced to 27-58 all-time against Syracuse and 13-23 in home contests. In ACC play, the Eagles are 4-18 versus the Orange.
● BC improved to 8-3 in home games, 4-5 in January, 10-3 in night games, and 9-5 on weekdays.
● Syracuse is Boston College's fourth-most common opponent.
● From 1979-2005, both teams were members of the Big East. BC was 17-34 against Syracuse in Big East play.
● Boston College is 5-2 this year, 8-1 in 2022-23 and 13-4 since Feb. 21, 2022 when Zackery scores at least 15 points.
● Harris has scored in double figures in 15 of the 20 games in which he has appeared this season.
WHAT'S NEXT:
● Boston College enjoys a bye week before returning to action on Tuesday, Feb. 6 when it hosts Florida State. Tip-off against the Seminoles is set for 7 p.m. and the game will be televised on ACC Network.
● Boston College trails 9-13 in the all-time series versus Florida State, but holds a 7-3 edge in home matchups. Last season, the Eagles earned a road victory over the Seminoles, 75-69, on Feb. 18, 2023.
