September 08, 2023 | Men's Soccer
RALEIGH, N.C. – Junior Nare's goal in the 24th minute proved to be the game-winner as NC State defeated Boston College 2-0 on Friday night at the Dail Soccer Field in the ACC opener for both teams.
The Eagles pushed their record to 2-2-1 (0-1-0 ACC), while the Wolfpack improved to 3-2-0 (1-0-0 ACC).
The Eagles got the first chance of the game minutes in when freshman Xavier O'Neil crossed a pass from the endline over to sophomore Ted Cargill, who headed the ball just wide of the right post.
The Wolfpack opened the scoring in the 24th minute when Nare ripped a shot into the top right corner just out of the reach of Klein's diving effort. Nare's goal snapped goalkeeper Brennan Klein's shutout streak of three games and a total of just under 294 minutes.
Klein kept the score at 1-0 in the 72nd minute with a sliding save on Yuta Toya after a pass back was intercepted. Klein finished the match with four saves.
NC State extended its lead in the 90th minute as Luke Hille dribbled into the box and finished one inside the left post.
BC returns to action next Friday night as it hosts the University of Pittsburgh at 7 p.m. at the Newton Soccer Complex.
