Eagles Fall in Five to Fighting Irish

SOUTH BEND, Ind. -- The Boston College volleyball team fell at Notre Dame, 3-2, on Friday night inside Purcell Pavilion. The Eagles fell for the first time since Sep. 3, while the Irish Improved to 7-2, with a fifth straight win.
The Eagles started fast on a 4-2 run to start the match. The set was tied five times to ultimately go to the Fighting Irish, 21-25.
In the second, a 6-2 run made at 12-7; forced a Notre Dame timeout. The Fighting Irish again called a timeout after back-to-back kills by senior Alayana Crabtree at 19-13. The set was won off of a freshman Halle Schroder kill, 25-16.
Boston College grabbed a back and forth third set. The Eagles dominated early, 6-2. The Irish went on a 4-0 run tying up the set. Notre Dame remained within three taking the set into extra points. A kill by Crabtree sealed the set for the Eagles 26-24.
Down 5-13 in the fourth, Boston College fell 15-25. The Fighting Irish carried the momentum into the fifth set finishing 6-15.
Crabtree led the offense with 12 kills followed by senior Katrina Jensen tacking on 10. Crabtree added on eight digs, while Jensen tacked on five blocks. Senior Julia Haggerty had a season-high 11 blocks. The defense was led by senior libero Anna Murphy with 19 digs. While senior setter Sophia Lambros guided the offense with 21 assists, tacking on two service aces. Schroder played on both sides of the ball, collecting nine kills, one assist, one service ace, 16 digs and six blocks. Schroders performance led the team with 13.5 points.
The Eagles return to action Sunday, at Louisville for a 1 p.m. match on ACCNX.
