BC Battles #5 Louisville; Falls in Four Sets

LOUISVILLE, Ky. -- Boston College battled No. 5 Louisville before falling in four sets on Sunday afternoon. Scores of the sets were 23-25, 20-25, 25-23, and 25-17.
The Eagles battled point for point with the Cardinals in the opening set, before ultimately falling, 25-23. BC tallied 12 kills and hit .200 in the first, while UofL registered 14 kills and a .167 swing percentage.
In the second, BC never led as the Cards jumped out to a 5-1 advantage. A 4-1 push by the Eagles got it to within one. Boston College would tie it twice and get within one on eight occasions, but dropped set two, 25-20.
Boston College grabbed the third set, 25-23 - the first set taken by the Eagles over the Cardinals in three years. BC would hit .333, logging 13 kills on 30 swings (three errors).
Louisville closed out the match in the fourth, using a strong finish to secure the victory. BC trailed by one - 14-13 - before the Cards rallied to score seven of the next eight points. The Eagles could not dig out of that hole and dropped the frame, 25-17.
Katrina Jensen led the Eagles in kills, with 15. Jensen hit .433 for the match - best among all players on the afternoon. Alayna Crabtree had seven kills and Samantha Hoppes six on the day. Halle Schroeder (12) and Anna Murphy (11) each tallied double-figures in digs, while setters Sophia Lambros (19) and Jane Petrie (11) led the way in assists. Julia Haggerty posted nine total blocks, including two solo and seven assisted.
For the match, BC hit .187 (43 kills/20 errors/123 attempts) and registered four service aces.
The Eagles fall to 11-5 overall and 0-2 in ACC play and return to action on Friday, Sept. 29 at No. 8 Pittsburgh. They finish the weekend of conference play on Sunday, Oct. 1 at Virginia.
