
BC Defeats URI in Three

CHESTNUT HILL, Mass.-Â The Boston College volleyball team swept Rhode Island, 3-0, at home Tuesday evening. The Eagles improved to 7-3, while the Rams dropped to 1-9. BC won in straight sets by scores of 25-18, 25-15, and 25-12.
The Rams came out strong, in set one exchanging the lead three times before BC claimed the lead at the five all mark by a sophomore Grace Milliken kill. Finishing set one 25-18.
Set two was all Boston College, taking a controlling lead. The Eagles led by as much as 20-10, senior Alayna Crabtree led the set with four kills.Â
The final set was dominated by the Eagles, going on a 9-0 run. Junior Julia Haggerty led the run with five of the nine points, three kills and two solo blocks. Solidifying the victory at 25-12.
Crabtree and Haggerty led the Eagles offense with seven kills respectively, Haggerty netted the kills on a .875 attack rate, while Crabtree tacked on nine digs and two service aces. Senior libero Anna Murphy led the defense with 14 digs, while Haggerty protected the net with three blocks. Junior setter Jane Petrie and senior setter Grace Penn guided the offense with 23 assists, Penn led with 13.Â
The Eagles return to action on Friday for two matches in Chestnut Hill, Mass. beginning at 1 p.m. against Providence.
