BC volleyball claims victory over Michigan at home on Friday

CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. – Boston College volleyball swept Michigan, 3-0, at the Margot Connell Recreation Center on Friday night to open its season with a win. The Eagles won by scores of 25-18, 25-22, and 25-14.

Senior Outside hitter Katrina Jensen (Temecula, Calif.) led the team with 12 kills, while senior Alayna Crabtree (Normal, Ill.) was not far behind with 10. Jensen led the team with 13.5 points and three blocks, while Crabtree had four digs and one block.

Senior libero Anna Murphy (Zionsville, Ind.) picked up a team-leading 14 digs, and one service ace. Senior Sophia Lambros ( Fullerton, Calif.) led the team with two service aces while adding on seven digs and 20 assists.

In set one, Lambros tallied two aces in the first three points as BC raced out to a 3-0 lead. Grace Milliken's (Lucas, Texas) fifth kill pushed BC's lead to 23-17, the set finished on a kill from Crabtree.

Back-to-back kills from Crabtree and Jensen put BC ahead 15-10 in the second. A handful of errors and a set of kills from Junior Julia Haggerty (Lafayette, Calif.) and Freshman Audrey Ross (Danville, Calif.) won the set.

The two sides went back and forth early in the third. The Eagles then pulled away from a 4-4 tie, with back-to-back Ross kills to lead 8-5. The Eagles went on a four point run to lead 18-9, including two kills from Crabtree and a kill by Jensen. It was Ross who sent the Eagles up 24-14, and an error which claimed victory for the Eagles.

Senior setter Grace Penn (Fullerton, Calif.) and Lambros paced the BC attack with 14 assists and 20 assists, respectively.

Boston College faces Sacred Heart at 1 p.m. on Sunday, the match will be streamed on ACCNX.
