
Eagles Dominate in Tournament Opener

BC volleyball takes three sets to claim victory over Sacred Heart in BC Invitational
CHESTNUT HILL, Mass.- The Boston College volleyball team extended its win-streak to two with a victory over Sacred Heart on Sunday afternoon at the Boston College Invitational. The Eagles took three straight sets against the Pioneers with scores of 25-14, 25-23, and 25-22.
BC dominated the first set against SHU. Senior Alayna Crabtree (Normal, Ill.) led the Eagle's with 13 kills, at 20-12 Crabtree totaled six kills, before an ace by senior libero Anna Murphy (Zionsville, Ind.) won the set.
Sacred Heart came out strong in the second set, taking a lead of 10-6. BC came back to even the score before both teams exchanged the lead for the remainder of the set. The Eagles pulled away to take the set by 25-23.
SHU continued to fight in the third set. After falling behind 17-9, a run of 8-1 put the Eagles within striking distance. The match continued to go back-and-forth. A kill from Crabtree ended the set, leaving the Eagles with a sweep of the Invitational.
Overall two Eagles finished in double digit kills. Crabtree contributed 13 kills, and freshman outside hitter Halle Schroder (Frisco, Texas) notched 12. While junior Jenna Pollock (St. Catharines, Ont.) hit .350 with nine kills.
On the back row Murphy led the Eagle defense with 14 digs, and Schroder added 12. Junior Jane Petrie (San Diego, Calif.) guided the offense with 21 assists, and Senior Grace Penn (Manhattan Beach, Calif.) added 11.
In Schroders college debut she achieved 12 kills, 12 digs, 2 service aces, and the lone block of the game. Schroder is the first double-double holder of the season.
Boston College returns to action next Wednesday at 6 p.m. in New Hampshire against UNH.
