Eagles Advance to NCAA Quarterfinals with Win over Penn
May 14, 2023 | Lacrosse
CHESTNUT HILL, Mass.  - Boston College lacrosse pushed past Penn in the second round of the NCAA Tournament with a 9-7 victory at the Newton Lacrosse Field on Sunday afternoon.Â
Boston College will play Notre Dame in the quarterfinals next Thursday with a time to be determined. The Eagles are now 17-3 on the season after their 11th straight win.Â
It was a solid defensive performance for BC, holding a Penn squad that came into the game averaging 14 goals a game to just seven. It's the fourth straight opponent BC has held to less than 10 goals.Â
With the score tied 1-1 late in the first quarter, four different Eagles scored during a 4-0 run that was started with a Mckenna Davis goal. Courtney Weeks capped off the run in the second frame to give BC its largest lead of the game.Â
Penn made things interesting after BC went into the half with a 5-2 edge. The Quakers were able to slice the lead to one, 8-7, in the fourth quarter.Â
However, the clutchness of Courtney and Cassidy Weeks came through as Courtney found her sister to extend the lead to two, helping BC to run out the clock for an 11th straight win at Newton in the postseason.Â
A trio of Eagles scored twice in Jenn Medjid, Mckenna Davis and Kayla Martello scored twice. Courtney Weeks and Medjid led the way with three points, as Weeks posted a pair of assists with a goal.Â
Sophia Taglich led the team with a pair of caused turnovers, while Ryan Smith posted four draw controls. Cassidy Weeks posted two ground balls, two draw controls and a goal and assist.Â
Shea Dolce posted eight saves in the win to improve to 13-2 in the win.Â
