
Eagles Advance to ACC Semifinals With Victory Over Duke

CHARLOTTE, N.C. - The top-seeded Eagles are moving on after defeating No. 9 seed Duke 15-9 in the quarterfinal round of the 2023 Ally ACC Tournament in Charlotte, N.C. on Wednesday afternoon at American Legion Memorial Stadium.Â
The Eagles will face No. 5 seed Notre Dame on Friday at 1 p.m. for a trip to the ACC title game. Boston College is now 14-3 on the season after its first win over Duke in the ACC Tournament.Â
BC's stingy defense and draw specialists highlighted the victory, as it forced 11 caused turnovers in the triumph, including three from Shea Baker and two more from Sydney Scales. Eight different players recorded a caused turnover.Â
Boston College held Duke in check with a 16-13 edge in draw controls. Ryan Smith led the charge with six, while Cassidy Weeks and Andrea Reynolds each had three apiece.Â
Jenn Medjid scored four goals on just five shots, while Belle Smith posted four points with three goals and an assist.Â
Mckenna Davis netted four points with one goal on three helpers. Kayla Martello scored twice to round out the leading goal scorers. Nine different players tallied a goal for BC.Â
The offense jumped out to a 5-2 lead after the first quarter thanks to a balanced attack with five different players scoring the back of the net.Â
BC stayed in front of Duke in the second period as it held a 9-3 edge after a Kayla Martello score. The Blue Devils scored before the end of the half to send the Eagles into the break with a 9-4 advantage.
It wasn't until the 6:53 mark either team scored, where Duke sliced the gap to four. However, Annabelle Hasselbeck started a 5-0 run to push the lead to 14-5. BC stayed in control to pull away for an eighth straight win despite Duke scoring three straight to end the game.Â
