About the Eagles
Boston College is 10-1 and riding a program-record 10-game win streak heading into its ACC opener at No. 10 Virginia Tech. Senior center fielder Barry Walsh is hitting a team-high .417, primarily out of the nine-hole, with a 1.169 OPS. He has three home runs, 11 RBI, nine runs scored and three stolen bases. Juniors Joe Vetrano and Cameron Leary have each smacked five home runs. Vetrano is hitting .302 with a 1.121 OPS and Leary is hitting .300 with a 1.133 OPS. Vetrano homered twice in Tuesday’s win at No. 2 Tennessee, while Leary added a game-winning home run in the 10th. Junior right-hander John West gets the start on Friday. He is 1-0 with a 3.86 earned run average and 12 strikeouts in 9.1 innings of work.
Eagles Are Streaking
Boston College’s 10-game winning streak is the longest in program history. The Eagles’ previous high was nine games in April 2010, which featured a Beanpot Championship, sweeps over Wake Forest and at NC State and a win over Quinnipiac. The 2010 streak ended April 30 at No. 18 Virginia Tech.
ACC Openers
Boston College is 6-11 all-time in ACC openers, beginning with a 2-1 loss at No. 22 NC State in 2006. The Eagles are 4-8 under Mike Gambino following a 12-11 win over Miami. BC has faced a ranked team in 15 of 17 ACC openers and a top-10 nine times, including each year from 2016-19.
