BC Sweeps Doubleheader at Kennesaw State
March 04, 2023 | Baseball
Eagles run win streak to seven behind final scores of 7-4 and 6-2.
Â
In the opener, BC jumped out to a three-run lead in the top of the first, which featured a RBI-triple by junior right fielder Travis Honeyman (Massapequa, N.Y.). The Owls jumped back in the game in the third, taking advantage of three free passes, and tied the game.
Â
The Eagles answered immediately in the top of the fourth, which opened with an error. Senior shortstop Vince Cimini (Scranton, Pa.) plated the go-ahead run with a RBI-single and Honeyman tacked on another with a fielder's choice RBI.
Â
Honeyman went 3-for-5 in the game with two RBI and two runs. He singled and stole a base in the eighth; scoring on a pair of errors to push the game to its final score.
Â
Graduate right-hander Henry Leake (Burbank, Calif.) got the win in 2.2-scoreless innings of relief. Leake (1-1) allowed two hits and struck out two. Junior RHP John West (Shrewsbury, Mass.) gave up three runs on three hits, two walks and two hit batters in a 2.1-inning start. He also struck out three.
Â
Junior RHP Joey Ryan (Norwood, Mass.) struck out eight batters and got the save in a 3.2-inning appearance. He retired all 10 batters faced and struck out the side in the ninth.
Â
Boston College pushed its win streak to seven games, the longest since starting the 2016 season 7-0, with a 6-2 win in the nightcap. Graduate right-hander Chris Flynn (Naugatuck, Conn.) threw five-shutout innings and struck out 10 to lift his scoreless-inning streak to 17 to start the year. Flynn (3-0) worked with traffic on in every inning, leaving nine Owls on base as he worked around six hits and three walks.
Â
The Eagle broke into the score column in the second inning with a RBI-double from junior left fielder Cameron Leary (Bethpage, N.Y.) and a RBI-single by freshman catcher Adonys Guzman (Valley Cottage, N.Y.). BC pushed its lead to 6-0 with two runs in the third, including another RBI hit from Leary, and two in the fifth as Honeyman doubled in a run.
