About the Eagles
Boston College is 18-5 and 6-3 in the ACC having won each of its first three league series for the first time since joining the league. The Eagles are ranked in every poll for the second consecutive week, peaking at No. 13 in the Baseball America poll. A pair of Division III graduate transfers headline the BC rotation on Friday and Saturday with second-year Eagle and right-hander Henry Leake getting the ball on Friday. Fellow RHP Chris Flynn then takes the ball on Saturday. Leake is 3-1 with a 3.09 earned run average in seven appearances, including four starts. Flynn is top-eight in the ACC and in wins, ERA and strikeouts with a 5-1 record and 1.80 ERA and with 44 strikeouts in 35 innings of work. Senior center fielder Barry Walsh is BC’s top hitter at .350; splitting time between leadoff and ninth in the order. Graduate catcher Peter Burns is second at /327 with a team-leading .493 on-base percentage.
Streaking Eagles
Second baseman Patrick Roche enters the weekend on a career-best 13-game reached base streak, including a five-game hit streak. He is hitting .526 (10-for-19) over the last five games. Right fielder Travis Honeyman has the longest active hit streak at nine games, the second nine-game hit streak of his career. Over his last nine games, Honeyman is hitting .389 (14-for-36). Infielder Sam McNulty also has a seven-game hit streak and 12-game reached base streak dating back to the end of the 2022 season.
Inside The Polls
The Eagles re-entered the national polls on March 13 as the No. 18 team in the country by Baseball America and No. 24 in the ESPN/ USA Today Coach’s Poll. BC was last ranked on March 15, 2021; the Eagles third consecutive week in the polls. In 2021, Boston College’s No. 13 ranking in Baseball America was the highest in program history and the highest for a New England program since Connecticut (No. 14 - 2011 final poll). The Eagles matched that record as the No. 13 team in Baseball America this week.
