BLACKSBURG, Va. - Boston College lacrosse edged Virginia Tech, 14-12, on Saturday afternoon at Thompson Field.
The Eagles are 7-3 and 4-1 in league action while Virginia Tech is 5-6 to the season and 1-4 in the ACC.Â
Jenn Medjid led the way with four points thanks to a pair of goals and assists. Medjid's first score of the game gave the senior 200 goals, becoming one of three players in school history with Sam Apuzzo and Charlotte North to score 200 career goals
A pair of Eagles registered hat tricks, as Kayla Martello netted her fourth of the season with three goals. Shea Baker stepped up off the bench with all of her three scores in the second half for her first-career hat trick. The duo led seven different players who scored and five tallying multiple scores.
Mckenna Davis led the team with three assists, and Courtney Weeks tallied three points with a pair of scores and an assist. Ryan Smith scored twice as well for a personal best.Â
Belle Smith wasn't up to her usual ways racking up points, but did have a goal, an assist, a team-high five ground balls with one caused turnover and three draw controls.Â
Boston College faced a 9-7 deficit in the third period before finishing the game on a 7-3 run to seal a sixth straight win in the series.Â
A 5-1 surge gave the Eagles the lead for good after trailing by two. The Hokies stopped a 3-0 run to tie up the game before R. Smith and Martello tacked on two for a 12-10 edge.Â
Virginia Tech sliced the deficit to just once but BC's back-to-back scores put the game out of reach despite the Hokies scoring with under a minute left.Â
BC had taken early control with a 3-1 lead going into the second quarter. However, VT scored seven goals in the second frame to go into the half with an 8-7 advantage.Â
The Eagles held the VT offense in check in the second half, allowing just four goals including only one in the final frame. Shea Dolce accounted for eight saves between the posts.Â
BC is back in action on Wednesday at 6:30 p.m. against Dartmouth in Alumni Stadium for the Morgan's Message Game.
