Eagles Set to Host UNC In Home Opening Series
March 23, 2023 | Softball
BC will play a double header on Friday and another game on Sunday
Last time out for the Eagles...Â
On Tuesday, BC Softball traveled to Storrs for a midweek game against the UConn Huskies. The bats were on fire for both teams in that one, Freshman Meg Schouten and Zoe Hines both homered, as did Sophomore Hannah Slike. It was Hines' first career home run, the second of the season for Schouten and the fifth of the season for Slike. Unfortunately despite a great comeback after going down 6-0, the Eagles defense simply committed too many mistakes both in the circle from the pitchers and in the outfield and UConn would go on to win the contest 9-7.
This past weekend in Raleigh, BC took on NC State in their first ACC series of the season. The Wolfpack won all three games, 6-2 in game one, 8-4 in game two, and 3-2 in game three. Sunday's game three was a nail biter, the Eagles led 2-1 in the final inning and needed just one out to close out the game for the win but NC State was able to muster two runs in the final two at bats of the game to sweep the series. Sophomore Hannah Slike had another good weekend at the plate, she had four hits, a home run, and two total run scored, with an average of .333. Junior Nicole Giery also hit her second home run of the season on a three run shot in game two against the Wolfpack. Graduate pitcher Susannah Anderson recorded her season-high in strikeouts in game one on Friday with 11, she also only allowed just four hits in 22 at bats.
History Against North Carolina
BC is 4-40 all time against Carolina. The most recent matchup between the two programs came a little more then a year ago on March 13, 2022 where UNC won 8-3. The Tar Heels also won the overall three game series last season winning game two 5-3 as well. The Eagles won the first game of the series 4-2. North Carolina has also won four out of the last five games between the two the teams.
After this weekend's three game series, Boston College will host UMass next Wednesday at 6 p.m EST.Â
