Eagles Down Tar Heels In First Game Of Series
March 24, 2023 | Softball
CHESTNUT HILL, MASS – Boston College took down North Carolina 3-1 in the first game of a Friday afternoon doubleheader. The Eagles improve their record to 16-11 and get their first ACC win of the season to go to 1-3 in the conference while Carolina goes to 11-21 on the season and 1-6 in the ACC.Â
Both teams started slow to start the day with no runs through the first two innings. In the top of the third, UNC finally managed to get on the board with a 1-0 lead. But BC quickly responded in the bottom of the third scoring three runs on a hit from Hannah Slike to bring Maddy Carpe home and a hit from Kamryn Warman to send Nicole Giery and Slike in for the scores.Â
That three run third inning for the Eagles would ultimately be the difference as their defense was able to hold the Tar Heels through the rest of the game.
Sophomore pitcher Abby Dunning added another win to her season record. She pitched a complete game, recording six strikeouts and allowing just three hits in 24 at bats. Dunning is now 6-2 as a starter this season. Â
BC Softball will play the second leg of today's double header later today against UNC.Â
