BC Comes Up Short Against UConn

STORRS, CT– Boston College dropped a 9-7 decision to UConn on Tuesday night. Eagles go to 15-11 on the season and the Huskies improve to 15-8.Â
UConn started the game on fire on offense, they had a five run inning in the second and then scored another in the third to go up 6-0. But BC didn't quit, freshman Meg Schouten jacked a three run homer in the fourth to give the Eagles life, then fellow freshman Zoe Hines on the very next at bat after Schouten hit a home run of her own, which was the first of her career.Â
Unfortunately despite a valiant effort from BC, they simply had too many mistakes both in the circle from the pitching staff and in the outfield. After the Eagles were finally able to tie up the game at 6-6 on an amazing six run inning in the fourth, the Huskies immediately responded, scoring two more runs on a hit by pitch and a forced run on a walk.Those two runs would ultimately be the difference in the game, despite sophomore Hannah Slike going yard as well for BC's seventh run of the game. With Schouten, Hines and Slike all homering, this was the most home runs in a game for the team this season.Â
Head Coach Amy Kvilhaug had this to say about the game:Â
"We were pleased to see our offense punch back down six runs and thought that showed a lot of character and grit but we just couldn't get enough to score more than they did today. We put far too many people on base via the base-on-balls or hit batters and we will improve and are better than that, but today it was our weakness"
BC Softball will be back this weekend for their home opening series against North Carolina.Â
