February 25, 2023 | Lacrosse
CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. - The Boston College lacrosse team bounced back with an emphatic 17-8 win over No. 10 Duke on Saturday afternoon in Fish Field House.
The Eagles improve to 3-1 and 1-0 in the ACC, handing Duke its first loss of the season.
BC turned in a solid effort on both sides of the ball, limiting the nation's third ranked scoring offense to a season-low eight goals and controlled the draw with a 20-9 showing in draw controls.
The trio of Andrea Reynolds (8), Hollie Schleicher (7) and Ryan Smith (4) combined for 19 of the team' 20 draw controls.
Rachel Hall made eight saves for a .500 save percentage between the posts.
Six players registered goals in a balanced effort on offense, while Kayla Martello tied a personal high with five scores. She was one of three Eagles with hat tricks, as Cassidy Weeks and Jenn Medjid each turned in four scores apiece.
Mckenna Davis scored twice and tallied four assists, while Mejdid notched three helpers. The pair combined for six goals and seven assists in the victory.
BC wasted no time in its wire-to-wire win as Davis found Cassidy in the first 38 seconds of the game to put the Eagles on the board.
After Duke cut the lead to one, BC ripped off three straight scores to go up 5-1. BC went into the half with a 7-3 lead thanks to Weeks' second goal of the half.
A four-goal run in the third stretched the lead to a touchdown, 10-3, before Duke found the back of the net before the end of the period.
The Blue Devils made things interesting as they cut the deficit to four in the final frame. However, BC put the game away when it tacked on five more goals to pull away for the victory. The Eagles saved their best for last by scoring seven times in the final period.
BC returns to action on Friday in a rematch of last season's ACC and National Championship at 4 p.m. in Chapel Hill.
