Eagles Dominate No. 18 USC in Season Opener

CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. - The third-ranked Boston College lacrosse team dominated No. 18 USC in the season opener with a 14-3 victory on Saturday afternoon in Fish Field House.Â
BC is 1-0 on the season and 14-1 over its last 15 season openers, while the Eagles have won their last seven games against ranked non-conference opponents.Â
The Eagles dominated on both sides of the ball, with the three goals allowed tying the fewest USC has scored in program history (2013). Five Eagles led to 13 caused turnovers led by Hunter Roman's three. Rachel Hall played the first three quarters, totaling six saves on nine shots. Shea Dolce saw her first collegiate action in the final period and stopped a pair of shots. Ryan Smith totaled six draw controls and two caused turnovers. Five players recorded at least two ground balls.Â
Offensively, it was a balanced attack with six players scoring and two netting hat tricks. Jenn Medjid tallied a game-high five scores on the day, and Belle Smith posted three with one assist and four points.Â
Mckenna Davis turned in the best performance of her career with two goals and personal highs in assists (5) and points (7). Three of her assists went to Medjid. Kayla Martello also scored twice, and both Mallory and Annabelle Hasselbeck found the back of the net once.Â
Both teams remained scoreless until three players scored in a span of 1:31 to give BC a lead it wouldn't relinquish. Scores by Medjid and Smith pushed the lead to five before USC cut the lead to four going into the second period.Â
Boston College tacked on three more goals in the second period and held USC scoreless to claim an 8-1 lead going into the break. Martello and Medjid notched a pair of goals followed by two from USC.Â
BC ran away with the contest in the final period, extending the lead to its final margin of 11.Â
