Eagles Set to Compete at NCAA Championship

Seven Eagles are ready to take on the nation's best runners on Saturday
CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – The Boston College Women's Cross Country team is set to compete at the 2023 NCAA Cross Country Championship on Saturday, Nov. 18 at Panorama Farms Cross Country Course in Charlottesville, Virginia.Â
NORTHEAST REGIONAL
The Eagles are coming off competing at the NCAA Northeast Regional on Nov. 10, where they faced many of the top teams and individual runners in the region. The Women placed second overall as a team, which gave them an automatic qualifier bid to the NCAA Championship. The second place finish at the regional is the best for the Eagles since 2011, when they also placed second overall. This is also the first time Boston College has qualified for the Championship since 2019, and It is the school's 20th time qualifying in program history.Â
Emma Tavella finished eighth overall out of 265 runners to lead the Eagles on the day, finishing with a time of 20:02.4. This time breaks her previous 6K season-best of 20:15.0 at the Arturo Barrios Invitational earlier this season.
A trio of Eagles finished within 14 seconds of each other. Roshni Singh crossed the finish line in 17th place, with a time of 20:19.0. Lily Flynn finished six seconds later, placing 21st (20:25.7), while Molly Hudson was 30th overall (20:33.9). Singh and Flynn's both accomplished their fastest times of the season and highest placements.Â
Natalie Millerova was the final scorer for the Eagles, placing 47th overall with a time of 20:38.5. Sarah Flynn came in at 49th with a time of 20:53.8, while Ella Fadil placed 84th (21:23.4) and rounded out the group of Eagles who competed in the six-kilometer course. All three Eagles improved on their times from ACC Championship. Â
EAGLES ON THE RISE
After a top-two finish at the NCAA Northeast Regional, along with two top-six performances at the Arturo Barrios Invitational and the ACC Championship, the Eagles have earned a spot in the USTFCCCA top-30 rankings sitting at no. 26. This marks the first time the Eagles have been ranked among the top 30 poll since the 2020 season, when they ranked 29th during week four of the national voting.Â
Three Eagles were named to the 2023 Northeast All-Region team on Nov. 13. Lily Flynn, Roshni Singh, and Emma Tavella were recognized by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) following the Northeast Regional Championship in Bronx, N.Y. on Friday. All three athletes are coming off performances at the Northeast Regional where they are set season-bests in time and placements. Emma Tavella placed 8th (20:02.4), Roshni Singh placed 17th (20:19.0), and Lily Flynn (20:25.7) placed 21st. The three top-21 placements were a key factor in why Boston College was able to place second overall as a team on the Women's side and earn an automatic qualifier bid to the 2023 NCAA Cross Country Championship.  Â
SATURDAY IN VIRGINIAÂ
The Eagles will be competing in the NCAA Cross Country Championship on Saturday in Charlottesville, Virginia for the first time since 2019.Â
Boston College will have seven athletes competing at the NCAA Championship on Saturday, while also having one alternate travel with the team. Boston College will feature: Ella Fadil, Lily Flynn, Sarah Flynn, Molly Hudson, Natalie Millerova, Roshni Singh, Emma Tavella, with Molly FitzPatrick traveling as an alternate. The group of eight Eagles that will be traveling to Virginia will feature six upperclassmen and two freshmen.Â
The meet will showcase 31 of the top teams on the Women's side, along with 38 runners who qualified individually. The championship meet is scheduled to begin at 10:20 a.m. with the Women's 6K, followed by the Men's 10K starting at 11:10 a.m. Race times are subject to change in the event of inclement weather.Â
