
Eagles Secure First Conference Victory

CHARLOTTESVILLE, VA- Boston College defeated the University of Virginia in four sets on Sunday afternoon. Scores of the sets were 25-17, 23-25, 25-19, and 25-19.
Set one was back and forth tying it up three times early in the set. The Eagles took a commanding lead on a 3-0 run, off of a Julia Haggerty ace causing a UVA timeout. The set was secured on a Katrina Jensen kill. Jensen led the set with 14 total attacks.
The Eagles battled point for point with the Cavaliers in the second set, before ultimately falling 25-23. BC tallied 11 kills on 30 total attacks, while UVA registered nine kills on 23 total attacks.
BC started set three fast on a 4-0 lead. The Cavaliers tied it up 12-12, the Eagles responded on a 5-1 run, led by back-to-back kills by Halle Schroder. The Eagles maintained the lead finishing, 25-19.
BC closed out the match in the fourth with a strong finish to secure the victory. UVA tied it up 13-13, before the Eagles went on a 3-0 run led by Schroder to close the match, 25-19.
Schroder led the Eagles in kills, with 12. Followed by Samantha Hoppes with nine kills, hitting .474 on the match. Katrina Jensen and Cornelia Roach both had seven kills respectively. Roach hit .538 for the match - best among all players on the afternoon. Anna Murphy and Schroder each tallied double figures in digs, while setters Grace Penn and Sophia Lambros led the way in assists. Lambros tallied on four service aces, matching her season best. Julia Haggerty posted six total blocks, followed by Roach with five. The Eagles tallied 11 total blocks on the afternoon.
For the match, BC hit .233 (49 kills/ 18 errors/ 133 attempts) and registered nine service aces.
The Eagles move to 12-6 and 1-2 in ACC play and return to action on Friday, Oct. 6 at home in the Margot Connell Recreation Center against Wake Forest. They finish the weekend of conference play at home on Sunday Oct. 8 against Virginia Tech.
