About the Eagles
Last Time Out
Boston College pushed the Cardinals to the brink in a 73-65 setback on Thursday evening. BC tied up the game off a Taina Mair 3-pointer in the fourth quarter, but the Cards pulled away over the last five minutes of the game. Mair scored a career high on the road with 16 points, dished out seven assists and totaled four steals. JoJo Lacey put forth an efficient effort with 15 points, shot 4-of-7 from the floor, totaled six rebounds and four helpers. Ally VanTimmeren stepped up off the bench with multiple players in foul trouble and scored 13 points. Dontavia Waggoner led the team with nine rebounds on top of eight points and a pair of swipes.Â
Eagles to Retire Swords' Jersey
The Eagles will honor arguably the most decorated Boston College women's basketball player in program history, will have her No. 30 jersey retired in the home matchup against Clemson on Jan. 22 at 2 p.m. in Conte Forum. Swords joins Sarah Behn (1989-93) as the only women's basketball players in school history to have their jerseys hang in the rafters. Swords filled the record book in her time at Boston College as her name is atop many of the greatest single-season and career accomplishments. SwordsÂfinished her career as the second all-time leading scorer with 2,029 points. She went down as BC's all-time leader in rebounds (1,159), blocks (178), is the only member of the 2000-point, 1000-rebound club, and started in all of her school-record 133 games.Â
A Win Would
- Give BC a 14-8 mark and a 4-5 record in ACC play.Â
- Snap the Eagles' three-game skid.Â
- Improve to 14-6 against Clemson.Â
By the Numbers
17 - Waggoner, the ACC's steals leader, is 17 steals ahead of the player in second place. The 17 steals is the same margin between second place and 14th.Â
20 - BC is 10-1 when it attempts 20 or more free throws.Â
86.2 - Boston College's 86.2 defensive rating (points allowed per 100 possessions) is the lowest in the coach Mac era and the lowest since XXX.Â
65 - Boston College is 50-4 since 2018-19 when allowing 65 points or less.Â
147 - Mair's 147 assists on the season are ninth all-time in a single season.
What to Watch For
- Watch if BC can get to the line against a Clemson team that is allowing opponents to attempt 23 free throws during conference play.
- See if the Eagles can come up with offensive rebounds, as Clemson is allowing 15.8 offensive rebounds over the last five games (1-4).
- Over the last five games, opponents have outscored Clemson in the first half by a combined 36 points in the first half (-7 in second half). See if BC can get off to a quick start.
- Just like the Tigers, the Eagles have allowed at least 26.3 free throw attempts during their three-game skid. Watch if BC can keep Clemson off the line. Opponents have attempted at least 19 foul shots in six of the Eagles' eight losses.
- Over the last four home games, Â Lacey is averaging 16.8 points, 5.0 rebounds, 2.3 assists and shooting 44.2 percent from the field. Watch if Lacey keeps up her success inside Conte Forum.Â
