Eagles Suffer First Loss of Season at UMass

AMHERST, Mass. – Boston College suffered its first loss the season on Saturday afternoon, falling 3-0 to UMass at Rudd Field.
The Eagles dropped to 2-1-0, while the Minutemen remained unbeaten at 2-0-1.
Massachusetts opened the scoring in the fifth minute when Matt Cence beat Brennan Klein low to the far post.
Klein made several key saves early in the second half to keep the match tight, but UMass added a pair goals in less than a two-minute span.
In the 61st minute, Alec Hughes took a through ball from Evan Fournier in the middle of the BC box and ripped a shot inside the right post for a 2-0 lead. Ryan Levay then headed a cross from Fournier into the right corner in the 63rd minute.
Klein finished the afternoon with seven saves. Jesus Sahagun and Adrian Zenko led the Eagles with three shots each.
Boston College returns home to host Siena next Tuesday at 5:30 p.m. on ACC Network Extra.
