Conference play opens Friday against the Cavaliers
CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. -- The No. 21 Boston College Eagles (2-4, 0-0), return home to host No. 9 Virginia (3-2, 0-0) on Friday, and Monmouth (2-3, 1-0) on Sunday. The Eagles are coming off a 1-1 road trip, winning a thriller against Penn last Friday in the sixth round of the penalty shootout, and falling to No. 12 Saint Joseph's, 3-1.Â
Checking in at No. 21 in the NFHCA Division One Coaches Poll this week, the Eagles begin the weekend with a familiar foe, taking on the Cavaliers for the eighth time in five years. Since 2018, Boston College holds a 4-3 advantage over Virginia, yet the Cavaliers prevailed in their last matchup, a 2-0 win in last year's ACC Tournament.Â
Monmouth presents a different kind of challenge, with Sunday marking only the second all-time meeting between the two field hockey programs. The Eagles were victorious in their lone matchup, defeating the Hawks 7-1 in 2009.
Sunday's game will be the Multiple Sclerosis Awareness Game, with a rally towel giveaway for early arriving fans.Â
Both games will take place at the Field Hockey Complex on the Boston College Newton Campus, and will air on ESPN+.Â
